Bio-W is the first bioremediation, floating absorbent designed to collect and contain most hydrocarbons floating in water (both salt and fresh water).  Bio-W  has the ability to repel water therefore allowing it to "hold" only the hydrocarbons it absorbs.  When the hydrocarbons are "locked" or adhered to the fibers of the Bio-W flakes, the activated microbes will begin to remediate or "eat" the contaminant turning the hydrocarbons into harmless carbon dioxide (CO2) and water.

While ports and terminals pay homage to becoming greener on large-scale projects like reducing harmful CO2 emissions, John Paparone, owner of North Carolina-based Environmental Solution, Inc., says people often forget they need to pay just as much attention to the smaller day-to-day green tasks.
