More and more occurrences of soil contamination at onshore maritime facilities such as marinas and shipyards have arisen due to the high degree of industrialization and intensities of chemical uses. But traditional best practices for soil clean-up can prove challenging with rising fuel and transportation costs. Bioremediation products can solve both problems while creating an ecologically-safe atmosphere for both the worker and the environment.

John Paparone was interviewed by The Ship Supplier about how the shipping industry's cleaning sector is developing green products to address environmental concerns.  

Bio-W is the first bioremediation, floating absorbent designed to collect and contain most hydrocarbons floating in water (both salt and fresh water).  Bio-W  has the ability to repel water therefore allowing it to "hold" only the hydrocarbons it absorbs.  When the hydrocarbons are "locked" or adhered to the fibers of the Bio-W flakes, the activated microbes will begin to remediate or "eat" the contaminant turning the hydrocarbons into harmless carbon dioxide (CO2) and water.
